Claire heads our Finance & Restructuring team in Scotland and specialises in all aspects of turnaround, restructuring and insolvency law.  She acts for banks, insolvency practitioners, under-performing companies, directors and creditors.

Claire's experience

  • Advised two independent schools in Scotland on their acquisition by 35 Education, including comprehensive support on transaction structuring, contingency planning in the event funding was not achieved and guidance on regulatory considerations.

  • Advised Evelyn Partners LLP as administrators of Utopia Distribution Services Limited, a provider of critical distribution services to the music and video industry, on all matters arising during the administration, including the pre-pack sale and purchase of the business and assets of the company to World Distribution Services Limited.

  • Advised Sarah O’Toole of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP on her appointment as the Trustee in Bankruptcy to the Kilgraston School Trust and all associated matters concerning the closure of the school and marketing of the site for sale.

  • Advised Johnston Carmichael LLP as administrators of Mars Black Sheep Hotels Limited, a hotel and hospitality business on all matters arising in the course of the administration including the appointment of the administrators, the sale of the company's hotel and property assets as well as the review of the validity and enforceability of the company's security documentation.

  • Advised RSM Restructuring Advisory LLP as joint administrators of Crusoe Hotel Limited, operators of the Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo, Scotland. We applied to court to have a restraint order over the Hotel waived, we arranged for various inhibitions to be discharged and thereafter assisted with a sale of the Hotel.

  • Advised Leonard Curtis as administrations of M & D Leisure Limited, M & D (Inns) Limited and Waltzers Limited, owners of M&D Scotland's Theme Park. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and in accordance with the guidance issued by the Government, the Group’s operations were closed in March 2020 and thereafter mothballed. The Group, which employed 170 staff, formally ceased trading and all staff were made redundant. We assisted with a sale of certain of the Group’s assets which was concluded shortly after the Joint Administrators’ appointment.

  • Advised FRP Advisory LLP as administrators of Subsea Engineering and Technical Services Limited in all matters arising from the purchase of the business and assets by way of pre-pack administration. This included effecting the appointment of the administrators, negotiating and finalising the transaction documents and advising the Administrators on their rights in respect of the deferred consideration.

  • Acted for AlixPartners in the sale of a nursing home, including interaction with the regulator.

  • Acted for Trinity Exploration & Production and its subsidiary in Trinidad to restructure and compromise its creditor debts through a proposal process in Trinidad & Tobago and a fundraising through a placing in the UK.

  • Acted for BDO, administrators of the Ness Clothing group of companies in the sale of its retail business out of administration.
