AI in HR decision making: working with trade unions on the developments of AI

How businesses can work with their Trade Unions when it comes to the challenges around AI in the workplace.

Leading barrister Dee Masters of Cloisters Chambers joins us for what promises to be an exciting “fire side chat” with Pinsent Masons hosts Jonathan Coley (Partner) and Emma Noble (Associate), both of whom specialise in industrial relations issues. Dee is a specialist Employment & Discrimination barrister with an in-depth knowledge of the equality implications of AI in the workplace having written extensively in this area and co-authorised a report for the Trade Union Congress (TUC) through the AI Law Consultancy in 2021.

Dee is also a member of the TUC’s Taskforce looking at safeguarding workers’ rights in the context of AI in the workplace. She is currently drafting an AI and Employment Bill which will be published early January 2024.

In this discussion, we will explore:

  • How businesses can work with their trade unions to minimise the challenges presented in the face of greater implementation of AI within the workplace, and how to maximise the opportunities whilst protecting workers rights.
  • What should businesses be discussing with their trade unions on this issue? Is this something that trade unions are focussed on?
  • How can businesses get “ahead of the curve” and work most effectively with trade unions on the opportunities and challenges presented by AI?
  • What reforms, if any, are necessary to the current trade union legislative framework to assist with shaping the future of regulation in this space?
