This session will explore how the rise in bonus disputes will impact employers and what they can do to avoid common pitfalls.

Very often employers believe that because a bonus scheme is labelled as ‘discretionary’, it is essentially within their gift to decide who receives a bonus and at what amount. Only on receiving a challenge do they realise their ‘discretionary’ policy is not truly discretionary; potentially opening up disputes from the wider workforce. What was considered by the employer as an act of generosity could result in lengthy and expensive litigation.

We will be bringing together a panel of both Employment and Reward specialists to discuss ongoing issues employers are currently facing with the rise in bonus disputes. The session will cover the common pitfalls we see in bonus schemes (both in the policy wording and how plans are implemented in practice), the true meaning of discretion as well as practical advice on how to amend / adjust your bonus schemes to help protect your business from costly disputes.
