This session will explore how changes that will arise from the upcoming EU Whistleblowing Directive will impact businesses and the steps employers should be considering prior to the implementation date.

As the implementation date for the EU Whistleblowing Directive soon approaches, organisations will need to pro-actively review whether their existing practices and frameworks which protect whistle-blowers are sufficient and meet the minimum standards which are to be required across EU member states.

The pandemic has brought to the forefront the importance of culture, diversity and sustainability, as well as levels of employee engagement on important issues in the workplace. As a consequence, many employers have seen an increase in the number of whistleblowing reports made.

Guided by experts from our Employment & White Collar Crimes teams, the group will discuss the key areas for employers to address and understand how other firms in your industry are proposing to address the changes the Directive brings.

Across our multiple jurisdictions, we will look at the different internal, external and public reporting requirements for large businesses; the need for confidential and GDPR compliant reporting channels; the timescales required to investigate any report; the protections afforded to whistleblowers; and the remedies for those knowingly disclosing false information or retaliating against whistleblowers.

Agenda

  • Investigation of concerns and feedback
  • Prohibition on retaliation
  • Confidentiality
  • Progress in each jurisdiction
  • Practical considerations for implementation
  • Impact on the financial services sector
