This session will explore the key supply chain and contractual questions that any party considering repowering an existing project should be asking as they plan for the future.

Aimed at legal, commercial and development teams, the session will provide a practical framework for thinking about three distinct phases of the repowering process, each carrying its own supply chain and contractual considerations:

  • Effective management of existing contractual arrangements: balancing maintaining the support that will be required for the existing assets, with bringing the contractual arrangements to an end at the right time while minimising financial exposure;
  • Decommissioning the existing assets and interface: as the original assets approach the end of their operational life, attention turns to the scope of decommissioning obligations and the interface risks that arise in circumstances where demolition and new construction works are taking place in parallel; and
  • Procuring the new assets: the usual considerations around contractor selection, contract structure, and the allocation of scope and risk must all be assessed in the context of an operationally constrained site and wider interface issues.
