Key issues in Taxation - Contract terminations and damages – HMRC change the goalposts

Pinsent Masons’ Tax Team present a series of webinars focused on key issues in the world of UK tax. The webinars will explore UK tax risks, including furlough non-compliance and enforcement post COVID-19, tax implications when terminating contracts, taxation of the digital economy and IR35.

Each webinar will be delivered by specialist lawyers from Pinsent Masons Tax Team, with additional guest speakers still to be confirmed (we will provide further details on speakers before each session).

For each session, there will be a presentation of 45 minutes, followed by 15 minutes Q&A.

In this session as part of our wider series, Key Issues in Taxation we will explore the VAT consequences of contract terminations and the settlement of contractual disputes in the light of HMRC’s retrospective change of view announced at the beginning of September. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in contract terminations and the enforcing of force majeure clauses, what does HMRC’s change in practice mean for payments that have already been made?
