Out-Law / Your Daily Need-To-Know

In response to a recent survey showing that small and medium sized businesses are not confident that they are complying with employment regulations, Acas, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, wants SMEs to know that it can help.

Acas has launched an advertising campaign to let businesses know that it can help them to keep up-to-date on employment law and help them improve relations in the workplace.

The recent survey of 500 SMEs carried out on Acas' behalf asked respondents if they thought that their company had ever broken any employment law because they were not quite clear about the details of the legislation.

Twenty-seven percent thought that they might have inadvertently broken some employment legislation. Nineteen percent were worried a great deal or a fair amount that a member of staff might take them to an employment tribunal.

John Taylor, Acas Chief Executive said:

"Although Acas is well known and respected for its ability to sort out disputes we want to get out our message that prevention is infinitely better than cure. We are launching this campaign to emphasise all the services that Acas can offer organisations and their employees to help them build a better working environment."
