Almacantar given green light for Marble Arch tower scheme

Westminster Council's planning committee last night resolved to grant planning permission to developer Almacantar for a £450 million redevelopment of the Marble Arch Tower at the corner of central London's Oxford Street and Edgware Road.

The plans include the demolition of the existing 1960s 22-storey office building on the site and the construction of two new buildings reaching seven and 17 storeys high respectively. The new buildings will comprise 53 flats as well as 123,000 square feet of offices, 36,000 sq ft of shops and a cinema.

The planning committee approved a separate application for the construction of  affordable homes on another Edgware Road site to comply with the Council's affordable housing requirements.

Construction on the tower is scheduled to start next year. Both schemes are expected to complete in 2018.
