AvantGo announced on Friday that it has been granted a US patent for its popular software which is used to synchronise content between a computer and a personal digital assistant (PDA) running Palm, Pocket PC or Blackberry software.

According to the company, the patent protects:

"the systems, methods, computer program products, and combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for enabling web content (as well as other objects) to be loaded on mobile devices (as well as other types of devices). This enables users of mobile devices to operate with such web content on their mobile devices in an interactive manner while in an off-line mode."

Last week, the company announced a fourth quarter net loss of $8.2 million on revenues of $5.3 million. Its customers include 28 of the Fortune 100 and over 2,500 companies in 50 countries.

The company has 14 other patents pending.
