Expressions of interest (EOIs) for Brisbane 2032 Olympics procurement contracts have opened, with small, medium and large businesses across Australia getting access to a “once in a generation” business and infrastructure development opportunity.
The Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee recently launched its supplier portal, opening EOIs for 51 packages, including 25 relating to venues, 17 relating to technology and five relating to branding. Most EOIs close in the first half of 2026. Organisations, firms and businesses who register with the supplier portal will receive updates on upcoming opportunities.
Sean Henderson, a Brisbane-based expert in infrastructure procurement and delivery at Pinsent Masons, said: “The procurement launch is a once in a generation opportunity to contribute to the future of Queensland.”
“The Olympics is the biggest event in Queensland history, with an estimated economic and social benefit of $A8.1 billion (approx. US$5.269 billion) for the state,” he said.
“An enormous supply chain is required to deliver the games, with roadshows planned across the next months and years.”
A ‘Meet the Buyers’ roadshow will be held across regional Queensland later this year, including Cairns in November, and across Australia in 2026.
The A$2.5 billion procurement strategy for the games has flagged support for local businesses and driving economic growth as key aims. 80% of current supplier spending is directed towards Australian companies, with 44% going to small and medium-sized enterprises, according to the organising committee.
The Queensland government is planning significant upgrades to transport, facilities and tourism infrastructure across the State in the lead up to 2032.
Chris Woodhouse, a Brisbane-based expert in infrastructure procurement and delivery at Pinsent Masons, said: “Following on from recent sporting successes, momentum continues to build in Queensland towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.”
“The organising committee’s procurement considerations include financial capacity, sustainable business practices, capacity, capability, experience, ethical and support for local businesses including First Nations and social enterprises,” he said.
“These Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee procurement processes are in addition to ongoing GIICA procurement processes for 17 new and upgraded venues.”
The 2032 Olympic Games will take place in Brisbane and across Queensland from 23 July to 8 August 2032, followed by the Paralympic Games being held from 24 August to 5 September 2032.
