CallNet, the ISP which was one of the first to offer unmetered flat-rate internet access, has held emergency talks with telecoms company Cable & Wireless which has resulted in a deal to save the troubled company.

Cable & Wireless shut down the CallNet service on Wednesday after the ISP failed to pay its debts. The company had announced the termination of its unmetered service several days ago, saying on its site that all user accounts would be closed. Reports yesterday suggested that the company has failed to pay other creditors, including its former public relations company.

A Cable & Wireless spokesman today said, “We have reconnected CallNet. Having held further discussions we’ve come to a commercial agreement.”
