The Chinese Ministry of Information Industry has increased its control of internet use by citizens, ordering ISPs to screen all e-mail for political content and holding them responsible for material on the sites they host, according to a report by Associated Press.

The news agency adds that foreign software developers exporting to China must now give undertakings that their products do not contain hidden programs that would allow spying or hacking into Chinese computers.

Service providers must delete all prohibited content posted on the sites thy host, including chatrooms, and must forward all "sensitive materials" to authorities.
