The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is urging developers to submit ideas for the regeneration of the east of London after the 2012 Olympic Games. The deadline for responses is 18 November 2011.

A consultation was launched on the draft Olympic Legacy Supplementary Planning Guidance (OLSPG) in August 2011. Johnson said that OLSPG area has the potential to provide around 29,000 new homes and 1.35 million square metres of new and improved commercial floorspace.

The areas that have been singled out for regeneration opportunities are the Olympic Park, Stratford, southern and northern Olympic fringes, Hackney Wick and Fish Island.

The London Plan, the strategic development plan for London, identifies the potential of the Olympic Games to deliver fundamental economic, social and environmental change in east London. It describes it as "London’s single most important regeneration project for the next 25 years".

The Plan also confirms the Mayor’s commitment to use the Games and its legacy to secure ‘Convergence’ by closing the deprivation gap between the Olympic Host Boroughs and the rest of London.

The OLSPG was produced by the Greater London Authority who worked closely with local boroughs, Transport for London and the Olympic Delivery Authorities’ Planning Decisions Team.

Johnson said: "I want to work closely with all those who can help deliver this vision, including the private sector, the host boroughs, existing communities, the Olympic Park Legacy Company and landowners."

Responses to the consultation must be received submitted before the deadline on 18 November 2011.
