Council agrees on sale of two Hammersmith & Fulham housing estates for demolition

Hammersmith & Fulham Council has agreed to enter into a Conditional Land Sale Agreement (CLSA) with developer Capital and Counties (Capco) for two housing estates which will be demolished as part of the Earls Court regeneration scheme.

Councillors have backed recommendations by Council officers that the West Kensington and Gibbs Green estates be sold to CapCo. The estates comprise 760 homes, two tenant halls, an empty nursery building and the former Gibbs Green School.

The sale is part of the £8 billion Earls Court regeneration scheme.

Under the terms of the CLSA, as set out in the report presented to the cabinet meeting at which the decision was made, it is proposed that all homes currently within the two housing estates are re-provided to the Council, enabling the Council to offer existing residents offers new accommodation within the development.

The CLSA further sets out guarantees for existing tenants, leaseholders and freeholders. All secure tenants will remain secure Council tenants and have the offer of a new home within the development, matched to their housing need. Qualifying resident home owners will be offered a new property in the development at a discount of 10%. There will also be compensation schemes in place.
