For the second time in three months, dot.com job cuts fell below 1,000, as internet firms announced 824 job cuts in April 2002, down 47% from 1,549 in March. April 2002 marked the fifth time in six months that the total was lower than the previous month, according to the survey. It was two years ago since job cuts were only three digits. The April 2000 figure was 327.
The April figure brings announced dot.com job cuts for the year to 4,845. Since the Challenger firm started tracking dot.com job cuts in December, 1999, announced cuts have reached 147,285.
