Huawei has bought Dublin-based developer Amartus' software defined networking (SDN) business. SDN separates control from physical equipment, letting engineers manage equipment remotely, and allowing equipment from different vendors to be run from one central console.
Amaratus' SDN developers and senior staff will join Huawei's Irish office, the companies said in a statement.
The acquisition will "enable Huawei to accelerate its SDN roadmap and improve its competitiveness in SDN solutions and services by introducing fast business innovation and multi-vendor capability," the companies said.
Zha Jun, president of Huawei’s fixed network product line, said "We are delighted to have acquired the ground-breaking Amartus technology. The expertise and talented staff from Amartus product group who will be joining Huawei will help deliver our commitment to produce and develop innovative and high quality cloud and network services."
Amaratus will retain the right to service its current customers, and will focus on providing telecoms software development and integration expertise and services to vendors and service providers, it said.
Michael Kearns, chief executive of Amartus said, "We are excited to be able to bring this innovative technology to Huawei at a time when the telecoms industry is experiencing unprecedented change, driven by software".
Huawei announced in March that it will collaborate with SAP on internet of things development.
