Indeed, it appears that the company is finding it difficult to match the growth in sales of microprocessors and flash memory chips. This has given its main rival Advanced Micro Devices the opportunity to increase its profile on the market, but Intel maintains that it will recoup any lost business by the end of the year.
Intel is currently developing the Itanium chip for use in large corporate systems, which it hopes will take off later this year. It is also attempting to broaden its products by entering into network equipment and internet software supply, in addition to its role in producing chips for the mobile phone industry.
