Kier Partnership Homes has been chosen as the preferred bidder to redevelop a former Derby hospital into a residential-led mixed use development. The deal has been brokered between the Kier Partnership, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Derby City Council.

The proposed £100 million scheme would include 700 new homes and would be spread in phases over the next ten years, said Kier, which has teamed up with housebuider Taylor Wimpey and housing provider Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) to deliver the scheme.

The proposed new development would include 700 new dwellings, which would comprise a range of affordable homes to rent and to buy. The plans also include a new business park, which is aimed at supporting 450 new jobs in the area.

The proposed plans would be subject to involvement from the local community, who would be invited to participate in the development’s design as part of the planning process, Kier said.

“We are delighted to have been chosen by the HCA and Derby City Council to be the developer partner for this priority strategic development opportunity," said Chris King, managing director of Kier partnership said. "Working closely with our partners and other local stakeholders we aim to create a vibrant and sustainable community-centred new neighbourhood, which will enhance the lives of the residents and visitors alike."

Work is due to start on site this autumn.
