Lincoln Council has granted outline planning permission for a major scheme on a five hectare site known as Lindongate to the south east of Lincoln city centre.

The Council's planning committee has this week resolved to give outline approval for the development which includes 300,000 square metres of retail space including a department store, riverside restaurants and a modern transport interchange. The Council officer's report to the planning committee stated that the "overall aim of this major retail led, mixed use scheme is to provide a level of predominantly comparison goods floorspace which will enhance Lincoln's draw as a shopping destination and compete effectively with the larger centres in the wider region".

The applicant for the proposal is the Lincolnshire Co-operative.

“Lindongate will breathe new life into an important part of the city centre, it will create jobs and more retail and leisure facilities," said Lincolnshire Co-operative chief executive Ursula Lidbetter. "The new transport interchange is something that Lincoln needs and we were pleased to get positive feedback on this after our public consultation last year."

Lincolnshire Co-operative is currently in negotiations with potential development partners and retail tenants. It hopes to appoint a development partner within the next six months.
