Linden Homes and HCA to regenerate former Gloucester College site

Developer Linden Homes and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) have completed an agreement which will allow a 254-home redevelopment of the Greyfriars campus site in Gloucestershire to go ahead.

The development on the 2.4 hectare site will comprise 174 new apartments as well as 78 new townhouses, with 32 of the homes being affordable. The site will also have a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy, office space, restaurants, cafes, bars and community space.

The College relocated from the site in 2007 and the block on the site was demolished in 2011. Gloucester City Council approved the plans for the new scheme in January this year.

"This event marks an important milestone in the regeneration of Gloucester which has already seen £600 million invested since 2006," said Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company chairman Greg Smith according to local reports. "We see Linden's investment as a catalyst in regenerating the surrounding area."

"The homes will be designed and built to the highest standards," said Linden Homes Western land director Simon Gait. "With the new public square and local amenities, the development will undoubtedly bring a new vitality to the area."

"This vitally important project is part of our longstanding commitment to regeneration in Gloucester," added HCA head of area David Warburton.
