Apeera claims that its system will enable users to upload and store media files such images, music and games on a personal repository, managed and hosted by the operator, and pass them on to others through an interface on their handset or an internet portal.
According to the company, the solution, which can be applied to a variety of existing mobile services such as games, picture libraries and ringtones, will help mobile operators reduce entry barriers for new applications.
Apeera also said in a statement that its system allows operators to retain full visibility of distribution and file sharing between users and to apply a variety of revenue models, mainly through the increase in traffic through the network and in services being utilised.
Bruno Suard, the company’s chief executive said: “Operators are not looking for the killer application, they are searching for the killer revenue model.”
