Monster.com has sued a start-up rival run by the leading on-line recruitment site’s former CEO who has been joined by 18 of its former employees. Monster.com this week took action against WOWemployers Network alleging civil conspiracy, misappropriation of trade secrets and violations of stock option agreements and other agreements.

The aggrieved company alleges in its lawsuit, filed in an Indiana court, that its former CEO, Bill Warren, who left Monster.com in December 1999, used the company’s employees to obtain confidential information. It is seeking an injunction to stop the rival site trading.

However, Warren says that his restrictive covenant with Monster.com expired in December 2000 and said that the company’s former employees who joined him were not solicited by him, claiming that he was approached by them.
