Muse and Lambeth sign £135m Brixton regeneration deal

Muse Developments has entered into a development agreement with the London Borough of Lambeth to redevelop the area around the town hall in Brixton.

Under the 'Your New Town Hall' project, Muse will deliver 275 homes, a new office building for the council of up to 125,000 square feet and commercial space for start-up businesses. The existing town hall will be retained.

Lambeth chose Muse as its preferred developer for the scheme last year following a Europe-wide tender process. It said that it expected the scheme to enable it to reduce its core office buildings from 14 to two and save at least £4.5 million per year.

"We are very excited to be on board with such a major regeneration project; we want to create something that everyone in the borough can benefit from and which adds even greater vibrancy to Brixton’s thriving community,” said Muse Developments development director Michael Auger in a statement.

Lambeth Council's cabinet member for finance Paul McGlone said the scheme would bring "enormous benefits" for the residents in the borough. "We look forward to working with Muse to guarantee that residents and businesses are really involved in influencing the design decisions involved in this exciting project as we progress," he said.

Muse said it will now start the detailed design process of the scheme and consult on its plans with local residents. A planning application is expected to be submitted by January 2015 and, subject to planning permission, work is scheduled to start in summer 2015.
