New Forest District Council will begin charging community infrastructure levy (CIL) on developments in its administrative area next year following adoption of its charging schedule (4-page / 277KB PDF).

The charging schedule was adopted at a full council meeting earlier this month. It will come into force on 6 April 2015.

The charging schedule sets a rate of £80 per square metre for residential developments. The rate will apply in all areas of the District. All other uses will be subject to a nil rate levy.

The adopted charging schedule incorporates amendments recommended by the planning inspector carrying out the examination of the Council's draft charging schedule. He issued a report last month recommending that a proposed rate of £200 per sq m for superstore and supermarket developments of 1,000 sq m or more should be reduced to £0 per sq m.

The Council said in a statement it will publish a 'Regulation 123 list' prior to the implementation of the charging schedule to clarify which projects will be funded through CIL in whole or in part with other appropriate funding arrangements.
