"iTunes users have purchased over one million songs in the first three and a half days since our launch last Thursday, which compares with one million songs in the first seven days when we introduced the original iTunes for Mac users last April," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We're off to a great start, and our competition isn't even out of the starting gates yet."
However, this is a combined figure for sales to Windows and Mac users. Apple did not say how many of the one million sales were to Windows users.
In total, 14 million songs have been purchased and downloaded since the original iTunes Music Store launch in April. Apple expects to expand its music catalogue to around 400,000 tracks (at 99 cents each) by the end of October. It expects to launch an international version of iTunes next year.
