Plans submitted for White City 'Brickfields' regeneration scheme

Plans were submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Council this week for the redevelopment of the former Dairy Crest site in White City in London. The plans were submitted by developer Helical Bar Plc and Aviva Investors.

The proposed scheme has been rebranded as "Brickfields" according to industry magazine PropertyWeek.com.

The plans include proposals for 1,150 new homes; a 'not-for-profit' building which would provide 1,470 square metres of space for local and community uses; space for local retailers; a garden square and ecology trail, and a new bridge link to connect the development to nearby Wood Lane.

The masterplan, drawn up by Eric Parry Architects, provides for the 1,150 new homes to be largely constructed from brick and stone.

“Glass and steel buildings can have recladding issues after 60 or so years. Brick will still be there in 200 years,” said Matthew Bonning-Snook, executive director at Helical Bar, according to the article. “Brickfield’s scale and transport links will make it attractive to the private-rented sector, where we believe there’s huge opportunity."

According to the scheme's website, the hope is that a decision on the application will be made by Hammersmith and Fulham by December. If the scheme is approved a further round of consultation will begin on the detailed plans for each individual building with a target for development commencing in late 2013.
