Newham Council's strategic development committee this week resolved to grant detailed planning permission to developer HUB Residential for a 360-home development at east London's Royal Docks.

The proposals include the construction of two residential towers, reaching 23 and 24 storeys in height, on a 0.5 hectare vacant island site on Tidal Basin Road. The towers will comprise 360 flats and a ground floor commercial unit.

The scheme is not proposed to include any on-site affordable housing. The Council's planning officers said in the committee report (63-page / 2.35MB PDF) that they had assessed the viability assessments submitted with the planning application and, following negotiations, had reached an agreement with the developer for a financial contribution towards off-site family sized affordable housing provision.

Work on the site is expected to start in the summer and to complete in late 2016.
