South Lakeland consults on CIL draft charging schedule

South Lakeland District Council has opened consultation on its community infrastructure levy (CIL) draft charging schedule (DCS), proposing rates of up to £150 per square metre.

The Council has proposed in the DCS (52-page / 1.9 MB PDF) to apply a nil rate levy to all developments within the Kendal and Ulverston Canal Head regeneration areas.

A standard rate of £50 per sq m has been proposed for residential developments in the district, including sheltered housing and retirement housing. However, a rate of £20 per sq m would apply within the Croftlands strategic housing site in south Ulverston, and a nil rate is proposed for extra care housing and for agricultural workers' dwellings.

Hotels would be subject to a nil rate under the proposals and a draft rate of £150 per sq m has been proposed for the development of supermarkets and retail warehouses.

A district-wide nil rate levy is proposed for all other uses.

The public consultation ends on 24 October.
