Plans include the redevelopment of a manufacturing facility on a 4.5 hectare site to create 110 homes, a local centre, shops, a pub and a restaurant. A new junction will be created on the main road.
St Modwen has said it expects at least 220 jobs to be generated throughout the construction phase of the scheme, in addition to 75 permanent jobs which will be created at the pub, shopping and restaurant facilities.
“This is a sustainable development in a very accessible location that will bring social and environmental benefits to the Hartshill area," said St Modwen North Staffordshire regional director Mike Herbert. “It will contribute to the city’s housing supply and, with at least two construction jobs created for every home built, will bring significant levels of investment."
The site has previously been occupied by Dyson Industries, which used it to manufacture ceramic heat-resistant products. St Modwen said that IPS Ceramics, which still occupies a small part of the site, will relocate locally if the plans are approved.
St Modwen will hold a public consultation on the plans later this month to enable local residents and interested parties to comment on the proposals. An outline planning application will be submitted in early November.
