The Council is currently consulting on the DCS in which it has set out proposals to divide the borough into two charging zones for residential developments. In Zone A, which is located in the southern part of the borough, a nil rate has been proposed. In Zone B, covering the rest of the borough, the proposed rate is set at £38 per sq m.
Residential institutions are proposed to be subject to a borough-wide nil rate levy.
For retail developments, restaurants and cafes, drinking establishments, hot food takeaways, casinos and retail warehouse clubs, the Council has proposed to allocate a number of sites as Zones D, which will be subject to a nil rate levy. Zone C will cover the rest of the borough and be subject to a rate of £150 per sq m.
A proposed nil rate will also apply to financial and professional services, research, industry, warehouses, hotels and car showroom developments in Zones D, with a proposed rate of £25 per sq m to apply to those developments in Zone C.
All other non-residential uses across the borough are proposed to be subject to a nil rate.
The proposed rates remain unchanged from the rates set out in the Council's preliminary draft charging schedule, which it consulted on in March and April last year.
The current consultation will be open for comments until 5 July.
