The package, which is part of a wider £91.5m capital investment package for housing, education, transport, health and flood defence, also supports other housing priorities, such as an alternative approach to delivering housing adaptations and making land available for housing schemes. Hutt said that the investment will be used in the current financial year.
"Since we published the Wales Infrastructure Investment Plan last May we have generated an additional investment package of around £1.1 billion to fund our infrastructure priorities," said Hutt in a statement. "This is a significant amount of money and shows our determination to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and reduce poverty in Wales."
Community group Community Housing Cymry Group (CHC) said in a statement that it welcomed the announcement, but also warned that without further investment, the Welsh Government’s affordable housing target will not be met.
"While Ed Balls, Labour Shadow Chancellor, has called for 100,000 new homes across the UK, the Welsh Government, now the only part of the UK ruled by Labour, must match these words and take bold action and invest this capital into affordable housing," said CHC chair Tim Blanch.
