Developers Harrow Estates, Redrow Homes and Avro Heritage have submitted a planning application to Stockport Council for a 950-home redevelopment scheme on the site of the Woodford Aerodrome.

As well as the homes, the proposals for the 500 acre site include a new primary school, employment space, a pub, shops and community facilities. A detailed application has also been submitted for the first phase of the scheme comprising 145 homes and a village green.

Following public consultations over the summer the plans have been revised to address concerns raised by the local community, including the addition of a new bus service, improved pedestrian and cycle links and a revised layout with additional public open space throughout the centre of the development.

"We had an excellent response to the consultation and we are pleased to submit an application that has been shaped by the feedback received," said Harrow Estates managing director Jennie Daly according to local reports.

"By listening to the views of the local community and being conscious of the heritage of the site, we have been able to submit a proposal that we hope will be an asset for Woodford, and Stockport, for many years to come," Daly added.

Harrow Estates said it expects the Council to make a decision on the application early next year. Subject to consent, construction on the first phase of the scheme is expected to start by 2015 following demolition of existing buildings on the site.
