Laura's experience

  • Represented a renewable energy company on successfully resisting a claim for injunctive relief arising from enforcement of security options.

  • Advising a shopping centre management firm on all contentious issues related to the management of the centre, which includes dilapidations claims, insolvency advice, debt recovery and disputes arising from lease interpretation.

  • Advised UK's barley company on a wide range of matters covering an ERP application procurement, responses to cyber security breaches, the updating of staff privacy notices and transfer of personal data activities.

  • Advised an IT Managed Service Provider on its incident response to a cyber security incident arising from a mailbox comrpomise. This included advice on incident containment, regulator notification and potential impact of data subejct and third party claims.

  • Advised a company in the Financial Services sector in responding to a cyber security incident following a sophisticated phishing campaign. This included advice on the cross-jurisdictional response to the incident, including notification to multiple regulators in the UK and Dubai.

  • Advised a governing body for sport on the defence of proceedings arising from the death of a schoolboy during a sporting event. It is alleged that the boy suffered concussion during the game and the cause of death was found, by the coroner, to be Second Impact Syndrome – the first such case in the UK. This claim will be the first of its type in Northern Ireland and it is clear that findings on the management of concussion are likely to have a wide-ranging impact in other jurisdictions too, and may well lead to a raft of other such claims.

  • Advising a media company in responding to a cyber security incident arising from a mailbox compromise in the UK.

  • Advised a UK University on the management of ongoing litigation from a former student relating to the transfer and management of a property portfolio. The tenant is raising issues regarding security of tenure which arise from specific housing rights legislation in Northern Ireland. The case is novel in that it touches on the extent to which a property owner can be held liable to comply with statutory rights which ordinarily are only intended for statutory housing associations.

  • Advised a mining support services firm on its options following the copying of a piece of industrial machinery by its major competitor. The client had designed a product and system which enabled business in the construction sector to wash and grade sand for industrial use and had applied to patent the product in India and had registered a patent in the UK, with various design rights also registered in different jurisdictions in Asia and in the EU. They were aware that its primary competitor had started manufacturing and selling exact replicas of our client's product in India.

  • Advised a pet food retailer on potential group litigation concerning website tracking cookies and consent breach issues. This included advice on website compliance remediation, correspondence with the litigant as well as settlement strategy, and corporate disposal.
