Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has appointed Marcus Hierl as tax partner in its Frankfurt office, responding to a growing client demand across Germany for complex tax advice.
Joining from KPMG, where he has been a senior manager in the M&A tax team since 2010, Marcus will be advising clients across two of the firm’s key sectors –Technology, Science & Industry and Financial Services.
Marcus has significant corporate tax experience and specialises in tax efficient structuring of national and international mergers and acquisitions, complex corporate restructuring, real estate transactions and tax advice on estate planning and business succession for high-net-worth individuals. He advises clients across a breadth of sectors including telecommunications, pharmaceutical, real estate, food and automotive.
Volker Balda, Head of Frankfurt Transactional Services and Head of Frankfurt Office commented:
“Marcus’ corporate tax capability will play a crucial role in the delivery of our strategic objectives across transactional services, particularly as we work in increasingly complex and cross-border matters. Marcus is a fantastic addition to the team and will bring excellent experience and technical capability.”
Florian von Baum, Head of the firm’s technology, science & industry sector added:
“Across the sector, we are seeing a growing demand for tax advice, particularly with regards to M&A transactions. Marcus’ expertise will be a great addition to our offering, particularly given his experience working with a vast range of technology companies.”
Marcus will also have responsibility for building an investment tax practice to support the firm’s strongly growing German investment funds practice, developed by partner Dorothee Atwell following her appointment in Frankfurt last year.
