Pinsent Masons advises Azets Ireland on acquisition of Cooney Carey

27 Mar 2025 | 11:40 am |

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised Azets Ireland on the merger with Cooney Carey, combining two of Ireland’s leading accountancy, tax and business advisory firms.

Azets, which is backed by private equity funds PAI Partners and HG Capital, entered the Irish market in 2023 and is one of the country’s fastest growing professional services firms, providing a range of services including audit, due diligence, valuation, M&A, tax, restructuring, corporate governance, and fund management.

Cooney Carey is an independent chartered accountancy, taxation and business advisory practice based in Dublin.

This is Azets’ second merger since it entered the Irish market.  Pinsent Masons also advised Azets Ireland on its previous deal, a merger with industry-leading business PKF O’Connor Leddy & Holmes in 2024. Azets has doubled the size of its Irish practice in the last two years.

The Pinsent Masons Ireland team was led by corporate partner Gerry Beausang and associate Maeve O’Brien.

Commenting on the deal, Gerry Beausang commented:

“Private equity-backed deal activity is driving strategic expansion in key sectors in Ireland, including accountancy, and we are advising clients as they innovate in these market conditions.

We are thrilled to have advised Azets Ireland on this significant transaction, which further strengthens their position in the Irish market. Cooney Carey has a strong track record and reputation in the Irish advisory space. This combination will offer an excellent platform for growth for the merged business.”

Cooney Carey will rebrand as Azets Ireland on completion of the deal.
