Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has announced its 2022/23 financial year end results, unveiling a 14% revenue increase to £605.9m (A$1.12 billion or RMB 5.3 billion) as it further advances its purpose-led professional services capabilities.
The firm measures its success against four key metrics: financial success, people, clients and communities.
Our financial success
- Increased revenue by 14% to £605.9m (A$1.12 billion or RMB 5.3 billion) and PEP by 7.8% to £797,000 (A$1.47 million or RMB 7 million).
Our people
- In line with our APAC growth strategy, headcount for the region increased 19% during FY23.
- Advanced senior leadership gender parity following the appointment of Phillipa Beck to Melbourne office head, creating an all-female leadership team for the firm’s Australian three office network.
- Our lawyers launched our first Hong Kong ‘Moot’. Thirty of our lawyers took part, giving our junior lawyers a chance to practice their oral and written advocacy skills in a mock arbitration.
Our clients
- Advised SUSI Partners and its Energy Transition Fund on the launch of a renewable energy platform to develop largescale renewable developments across Southeast Asia.
- Advised contractor joint venture partners Webuild and Siemens Mobility on its bid to design and construct the stations, systems and trains for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project. This is the largest ever PPP project in New South Wales.
- Assisted China State Construction International on the development of Qianhai Shenzen – Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone in the Greater Bay Area.
- Advanced our ESG-focused solutions for clients with the acquisition of sustainable finance business Morgan Green Advisory.
Our communities
- Supported 130 charity partners on social impact programmes and supported 30,000 young people in our commitment to inspire young lives.
- As part of our commitment to our Reconciliation Action Plan, the firm established partnerships with Deadly Sista Girlz and Koya Aboriginal Corporation, both First Nations-led organisations in Australia focused on supporting young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Deadly Sista Girlz is the Waalitj Foundation’s culturally appropriate healthy lifestyle program aimed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls aged 8 to 18. Koya Aboriginal Corporation is a community organisation that runs programs in Western Australia and the North Territory to support adults, young people and children.
- Established an ESG Board Committee to inform the firm on its ESG and sustainability targets and metrics and support for clients with each member leading specific firm wide ESG objectives.
Partner and Head of Asia Pacific, James Morgan-Payler, said: "The Pinsent Masons offering across Asia Pacific continues to grow rapidly, allowing us to deepen our relationships with our clients and invest more in our people. We are working on significant, market-leading projects and transactions in the region that are very much driving energy transition and creating infrastructure that is adapting cities and regional centres in the Asia Pacific for the rapidly changing needs of its people and businesses. We are well positioned to continue this growth in FY24 with a focus on continuing to expand our legal service offering in the region."
Global Senior partner at Pinsent Masons, Andrew Masraf, said: “Our commitment to investing in our people, our clients and communities consistently produces results. We’ve had a record year of revenue growth during which we focused on harnessing those investments to provide creative and innovative legal services for clients who are grappling with complex issues in challenging economies.”
