Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has appointed Melanie Grimmitt to Global Head of its Energy Sector.

Melanie joined Pinsent Masons in 1999 and has over 20 years' experience advising on high profile infrastructure and energy projects across the globe.  Melanie's experience spans the full energy generation spectrum, and includes leading teams of lawyers advising on new build large scale offshore windfarms, gas fired power stations, battery storage projects, solar parks and nuclear decommissioning projects, for large multinational clients of the firm.

This includes advising on offshore wind farm projects, beginning in 2007 with London Array (for the project owners including E.ON and Ørsted) to, most recently, Awel Y Môr and Triton Knoll (for the shareholders including RWE Renewables).

In addition, for many years Melanie has been a regular speaker at energy conferences in the UK, Europe and Asia, working with colleagues across the globe to help clients working in the energy sector navigate the issues and opportunities arising from the energy transition.  Melanie replaces Paul Rice, who has stepped into a new senior leadership role leading the firm's climate change mitigation and sustainability platform

Richard Foley, senior partner at Pinsent Masons said, "The energy sector is experiencing a renaissance with new technologies becoming increasingly cost-effective and net zero being on every boardroom and political agenda. Never more so has business had a responsibility to effect change and Melanie's extensive experience and strategic thinking means she is ideally placed to lead the next phase in the development of the firm's energy sector.  That Melanie and Paul have worked closely together for so many years gives me huge confidence as we look forward. "

Melanie Grimmitt, global head of energy at Pinsent Masons said, "The energy sector is no stranger to disruption which brings overwhelming opportunities, as well as challenges. We're at the forefront of this working hand-in-hand with clients to ensure they have the right structures, services, technologies and capabilities to meet commercial objectives and create long-term value. The breadth of industry-specific knowledge across our multi-disciplinary teams across the globe, means we can effectively help clients, operators, developers and investors alike to deliver successful projects that pave the way for the future direction of this vital industry."
