About Jan Bessell

Jan is a Strategic Planning Advisor with significant experience of examining (former Examining Inspector PINS) and advising on a wide range of nationally significant and major infrastructure projects across the full range of sectors including energy, transport, Business and Commercial and waste water dealing with a wide range of issues from compulsory acquisition, development consent orders and habitats regulations assessment to deemed marine licences and closed hearings on grounds of national defence and security.

Jan also has wide experience of major commercial, residential and regeneration projects including planning strategy, policy promotion, environmental impact assessment, and planning performance agreements for major education and health institutions, developers, public bodies and major land owners.  Jan has also spent time in dealing with specialist minerals and waste matters for both the public and private sector.

Jan has been recognised for the last two years as one of ‘the most influential women in UK planning’. She is a member and on the Council of the National Infrastructure Planning Association.  She is a Fellow of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and sits on General Assembly and National Policy Practice and Research Committee. She is also on the Partnership Accreditation Board for University of West of England and continues to be engaged with Planning Aid.
