Developer Bellway Homes plans to build over 200 new homes in Newcastle following a £13 million deal to buy a 20 acre residential site on London Road in Holmes Chapel.

Bellway has submitted a reserved matters planning application for the development, which was granted permission last year. Plans also include a pub, hotel and other community facilities.

The deal was agreed with Cheshire based developer Bluemantle, which secured planning permission to redevelop the 30-acre site into a retail and leisure complex last August. Permission was also secured to build 231 new homes.

Bellway's plans for the development include a new convenience store, pub, restaurant and a 40 bedroom hotel. Employment space would also be built alongside community facilities including a medical practice, a care home and a children's day centre.

Bellway hopes to start the building work on site later this year. It is thought that the former pharmaceutical factory’s Art Deco frontage would be retained and incorporated into the plans.

Bluemantle has retained ownership of the remaining 10 acres, which it hopes could be used to accommodate a new foodstore.

“We are now turning our focus to the remaining 10 acres, which we believe is ideally suited to accommodate a variety of uses, including a new food store,” said Simon Isherwood of Bluemantle, according to local reports. “It is our intention to bring forward a planning application in the near future, incorporating a food store and several other complementary uses.”
