Bournemouth Borough Council has opened a public consultation on its community infrastructure levy (CIL) draft charging schedule (DCS), proposing to set rates of up to £120 per square metre for residential developments.

The Council has proposed, in the DCS (15-page / 955 KB PDF), to charge a nil rate for residential developments within the area covered by Bournemouth's town centre area action plan (the AAP area). In the rest of the borough, the Council has proposed to charge £70 per sq m for residential developments of 11 homes or more and £120 per sq m for developments of 10 or fewer homes.

Comparison retail developments would attract a nil charge inside the AAP area and a charge of £250 per sq m outside it under the DCS. A borough-wide rate of £250 per sq m would apply to convenience retail developments.

A proposed rate of £50 per sq m will be charged for the development of student accommodation anywhere in the borough. A nil rate has been proposed for all other uses.

The consultation on the DCS is open until 23 March.
