Canary Wharf Group unveils plans for 50-storey residential skyscraper

The group that controls the 97-acre Canary Wharf estate has revealed plans to build a 500 foot high residential tower at the Newfoundland plot on the western end of the estate on London's Docklands, Property Week has reported .

The proposed building, which has been dubbed the 'Diamond Tower' due to its diamond-patterned external shell, would contain 500 flats and be the first fully residential tower on the Canary Wharf estate.

The Canary Wharf Group purchased the site in 2008. It was then reserved for a 38-storey mixed use development to comprise shops, a boutique hotel and serviced apartments. The new plans have been drawn up by Horden Cherry Lee Architects.

An outline planning application for the development is expected to be submitted in the autumn.
