Christchurch and East Dorset consult on CIL draft charging schedule

Developers of residential schemes within Christchurch Borough Council and East Dorset District Council will be subject to community infrastructure levy (CIL) rates of £100 per square metre under new proposals.

The two councils launched a joint consultation on their draft charging schedules (DCS) (42-page / 4.55MB PDF), which they have prepared together, last week.

They have proposed to set a flat residential CIL rate of £100 per sq m to apply throughout their administrative areas. Care homes would be subject to a lower draft rate of £40 per sq m.

For convenience retail developments, the proposed rate is set at £110 per sq m. All other types of development, including comparison retail and offices, are subject to a nil rate levy under the plans.

The proposed rates remain the same as those set out in the councils' preliminary draft charging schedules, which they consulted upon in February last year.

The consultation is open for responses until 18 June. The councils said they expect to implement CIL in 2015.
