The London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) has approved the planning applications for two independent east London development projects that would include nearly 2,000 new homes for the area surrounding the Olympic Park.

LTGCD approved plans proposed by LandProp, the development arm of Sweden's IKEA Group, which included plans for around 1,200 new homes and it also approved plans proposed by East Thames Group and Southern Housing Group, which included proposals for up to 740 new flats.

LandProp was granted outline consent by the Corporation for its proposed Strand East scheme at Sugar House Lane in Stratford. Proposals for the development also include 365,000 square feet of office space, 136,000 sq ft of shops and restaurants and a 350 bedroom Marriot Hotel.

The master plan for the scheme outlines provision for mews style housing, large public spaces, creative workshops and the hotel. It also reveals plans for underground parking.

East Thames Group's and Southern Housing Group's Bromley-by-Bow North scheme was also approved by LTGDC, which resolved to grant outline planning permission for the scheme.

The proposed development includes plans for 740 flats, 38,000 sq ft of offices and a 68,000 sq ft car dealership. LTGDC also granted detailed planning permission for the first phase of the development, which would include 219 homes and 11,000 sq ft of commercial space.

This is the first major UK property development for LandProp, but it has already acquired further development sites on which it plans to start its expansion in the UK.
