Hadley Mace finalises East Greenwich scheme agreement

Developer Hadley Mace has signed an agreement with the Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the Royal Borough of Greenwich to deliver a £250 million mixed-use scheme in east Greenwich in south east London.

The development will be located at the intersection of Woolwich Road and Vanbrugh Hill on the former Greenwich District Hospital site. The project will deliver 645 mixed-tenure homes, shops, commercial space, green open space and a public square. It will be centred around a new community facility, to be known as the Greenwich Centre, which will comprise a healthcare facility, a library, a service centre and a leisure centre. Nearly 50% of the new homes will be allocated as affordable housing.

The Council granted planning approval to the scheme in 2009 and Hadley Mace was formally confirmed as the developer for the project in February 2012. The developer will work alongside the Greater London Authority, the Royal Borough of Greenwich, housing association London & Quadrant and NHS Greenwich to deliver the plans.

"This landmark regeneration scheme is a key part of my commitment to provide much-needed housing and jobs for Londoners by bringing forward public land for development," said Johnson. "The East Greenwich project will see nearly 30% of homes built with families in mind and the construction of some fantastic new amenities that will help to create a thriving and vibrant community. I am delighted the scheme is now storming ahead and is another step closer to delivering what I have no doubt will be an exciting new place for Londoners to live, work and visit."

“Through working closely with residents and businesses within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Hadley Mace will create a community hub for all residents of the borough to enjoy," said Hadley Mace project director Jason Wood. "Following the appointment of Hadley Mace as development partners in February, we will now move forward with our significant investment, to create a high quality place for residents, shoppers and visitors alike.”

Construction work commenced on site at the end of March 2012. The Greenwich Centre is expected to be completed in 2014 and the full scheme in 2017.
