HCA and Crest Nicholson launch 1,100 home project in Milton Keynes

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and developer Crest Nicholson have announced the start of phase one of a £200 million mixed-use development at Oakgrove in Milton Keynes.

The development will form a new parkland community of homes ranging from two to five bedrooms by the river Ouzel. The new neighbourhood will also have clusters of one and two bedroom apartments as well as retail and restaurant facilities.

Phase one of the development will have 231 dwellings and a new district centre. Affordable housing will make up 30% of the development, with both rented and shared ownership homes.

Milton Keynes Council granted outline planning permission for the scheme in October 2011. Detailed permission for phase one was granted in March 2012 and HCA and Crest signed a development agreement at the same time. Preparatory works on the site was started in the early summer.

“We know through working closely with Milton Keynes Council that Oakgrove is an excellent location for housing and the size and scale of development we are delivering supports the Council’s ambitions for more new homes," said HCA head of South Midlands East, Charles Amies.

"Crest Nicholson is delighted to be commencing the delivery of this landmark and much anticipated development at such a critical time in the economic cycle," said Crest's executive board director, Chris Tinker.

"I have no doubt that through the jobs created and quality new homes it will both stimulate growth and meet pent-up housing need. Local interest has been incredible and some 600 people have already registered their interest. We are confident of the success of the first phase and look forward to moving on to detailed planning on successive phases of the development.”

It is planned that the first homes will be available for viewing in November, with the neighbourhood centre opening in the spring 2013. The full development is expected to complete in 2019.
