MCC president Phillip Hodgson decided to withdraw the club's resolution to ban residential development as part of scheme "in light of the strength of the feeling surrounding the issue" at the Club's 225th Annual General Meeting.
At the meeting it was also agreed that the Club's Committee will present a holistic masterplan to MCC members, which will be drawn up by the Club’s Ground Working Party.
“MCC needs to look to the future. I want Derek Brewer – as of tomorrow our new Chief Executive – and Colin Maber, who worked so well together developing Trent Bridge, to produce a development plan dove-tailing with the Club’s strategic plan," said Hodgson.
"No one knows better than our dedicated and experienced Executive what MCC needs and I know that they and the Ground Working Party will come up with a masterplan that is in the very best interests of the Club," he said.
Since its formation in October 2011, MCC’s Ground Working Party, chaired by Colin Maber, has been exploring options available to the Club for the development of its facilities. It recently engaged architectural firm Populous on this project.
MCC Chairman, Oliver Stocken, was re-appointed for a further three years at the AGM.
“The Club’s number one priority is to provide, in Lord’s, the finest stage for Test cricket in the world, and central to any masterplan will be the need to ensure Lord’s remains the very best place to play and watch the game,” said Stocken.
