The City of London Corporation's planning committee has resolved to grant planning permission for the redevelopment of a site near The Monument in London's Square Mile to create a nine storey office building.

The scheme, which will be delivered by Skanska Project Development, will see the existing buildings at 11-15 Monument Street, 46 Fish Street Hill and 1-2 Pudding Hill replaced with 12,427 square metres of office space as well as 642 sq m of retail space on the ground floor.

The City of London's planning officers said in the report (57-page/ 24MB PDF) to committee that the proposals offer a contemporary building that would provide a "dramatic and appropriate" setting for The Monument.

"The proposals would safeguard the settings of the Grade I listed Monument and St Magnus the Martyr Church and the grade II listed No. 2 Eastcheap," the officers said.

"The site was acquired last year with the intention of delivering 85,000 sq ft of Grade A offices, designed by Ken Shuttleworth’s Make Architects, by the end of 2015, with around 40,000 sq ft of the office space being occupied by Skanska UK and the remainder of the space being let to occupiers looking for offices upwards of 10,000 sq ft in a prime city location," said Skanska Project Development’s Neal Pickering according to reports.

Skanska said it expects to start work on the site later this year and to complete the scheme in 2015.
