The application relates to the Strand East area, which is being developed by LandProp which is part of the Inter IKEA Group.
The application is a hybrid of outline and detailed applications with the outline element consisting of 1,192 residential units; 12,593 square metres for flexible uses including retail, restaurants, cafes, bars, offices and workshops; 33,950 square metres of offices and workshops; a 350-bed hotel; a pedestrian bridge across Three Mills River and a riverside park.
The detailed element of the application includes the demolition of existing buildings; 8 residential units, a pub, office and workshops space and a public square.
"Work is well underway on Dane’s Yard, the first phase of Strand East, with the restaurant and exhibition space opening in June. I very much hope that the planning application will be met with similar approval, so that we can progress the delivery of Strand East for the benefit of all," said LandProp UK country manager Andrew Cobden.
The Strand East site is surrounded by two waterways with the developer's intention to create a "mini Venice". The developer's aim is to create a neighbourhood with courtyards and a public square to encourage interaction, according to reports.
