Peterborough City Council to debate Preliminary Draft Charging Schedule

Peterborough City Council has appointed development consultants Roger Tym and Partners to advise it on its development of a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Preliminary Draft Charging Schedule (PDCS), following receipt of the Peterborough Community Infrastructure Levy Study.

The PDCS is due to be debated by the Planning and Environmental Protection Committee on 4 September, the Council said. It is then scheduled to be considered by the Council’s cabinet on 24 September and, if approved, it hoped to launch a six week public consultation on the document.

“Once we have a draft charging schedule which is specific for Peterborough we will be asking for comments from the public. We want to make sure that the finished scheme is one which is set at the right level to ensure that it is fair for all and will allow the city to continue to grow”, said Councillor Peter Hiller, member of the Planning and Environmental Protection Committee.

“This new way of levying money from developments is very similar to what we administer under our current strategy. Developers already pay towards community infrastructure - this is simply a new way of administering that payment. For most developments the amount payable by developers will be roughly the same".

The proposed levy will apply to all developments over 100 sq metres and all new residential units.

The Council has announced that intends to adopt CIL before 2014.
