Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles has opened the “East Village – a lasting legacy for London exhibition”  setting out the legacy vision for the future of the Olympic Park.

The exhibition was hosted by New London Architecture and showcased the housing designs for the planned East Village. The designs are the product of a joint venture between Delancey and Qatari Diar Real Estate Development Company, which will see the delivery of 2,818 new homes including social housing as part of the Olympic legacy.

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) was established by a statutory Order this month and will be responsible for regeneration connected with the Olympics. It will take over the work of the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) from 1 April 2012.

“The Olympic Park represents the most significant regeneration project of the next 25 years," said Pickles at the opening of the exhibition. " The Government is ensuring there is a lasting legacy from the Games."

“A key aim in delivering thousands of new homes in the Olympic Park after the Games is to ensure that people benefit from the 2012 legacy," said Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

The exhibition said that the East Village project will be the first residential legacy to result from the Games when it opens to residents in late 2013.
